With Fill the Boot Season in full swing, lets look at a little bit of Muscular Dystrophy Association history on this #throwbackthursday!
In 1952, Charlie Crowley went to IAFF member George Graney's Fire Engine Company 1 in South Boston. Crowley's sons had been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy and he needed money to take care of them. IAFF Local 718 member Graney immediately rounded up 20 fire fighters and set in motion a door-to-door drive that raised $5,000. The next year, Graney launched a city-wide fundraising campaign with the help of fire fighters across Boston.
At the IAFF's 22nd Convention in 1954, Local 718 members convinced delegates to make MDA the IAFF's charity of choice.
Since that time, the International Association of Fire Fighters has raised more than 700 million dollars for MDA and the AFFI has been a proud contributor the whole way! #affisupports #makehistoryhappen

On August 1st, 1901, Chicago Firefighters established their first Firefighter's Association.
In 1906, they became the 2nd Firefighter Union to organize with the American Federation of Labor, later chartering the International Association of Fire Fighters in 1918 and the AFFI in 1935.
