On February 14th, 1980 at 5:15am, The Brotherhood of the Barrel was born as the membership of Chicago Fire Department Firefighters Union - Local 2 walked out of the firehouses and went on strike.
The last Firefighter Strike in Illinois history played a pivotal role, not just in Local 2's history, but in the fight for collective bargaining rights for all union firefighters in our state. #MakeHistoryHappen

Today, President Rick Orchard of Belleville Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 53 was one of four #IAFF graduates of the Harvard Trade Union Program.
Since 1942, the 5-week program has prepared union activists to meet the challenge of dynamic leadership within their unions and society. Today, the program helps union leaders develop keener analytical, managerial, and problem-solving skills as well as discover ways to deepen public understanding of the value and importance of labor unions. #affisupports

The AFFI is asking for your cooperation in an act of solidarity. Mundelein Professional Firefighters Local 4786 has asked that all #IAFF members that are being considered for an appointment to Battalion Chief with the Mundelein Fire Department, remove themselves from the process.
Local 4786 and the AFFI firmly believe that qualified candidates from within the Department are willing and capable of performing in this position. In fact, bargaining unit Mundelein Lieutenants currently “act-up" in this position.
