It needs to go back to where the employer actually makes an investment in their new hires. Stop requiring the education they should be providing just to test. Employers don’t want to pay for initial investment in their own employees. Get rid of the educational requirements and put your new hires through a fire academy, EMT and Paramedic school. Many employers send new hires back to the fire academy anyways, regardless of their certification status so why require certification to test. There is a larger pool of people out there that either due to work and family already can’t handle the extra workload or due to their location have the inability to even get their foot in the door to start this.
