It is with great sadness that I inform you of the Death of an Active Member, Brother Steven Decker, of Chicago Firefighter’s Union, Local 2. Brother Decker passed away May 14th, 2026, after suffering a medical emergency during a training exercise. Brother Decker was a near 30-year veteran of CFD and was 61 years old. He is survived by his wife, Colleen, son Matt, Grandson Merlin, stepson Brian, stepdaughter Sarah, and step grandchildren Beau and Bella.
The Chicago Fire Department and Local 2 are still in discussions on whether this is a LODD. Regardless of the final determination.
Regardless of the outcome, Local 2 and Brother Decker’s family would like to have participation of the AFFI Honor Guard for his services.
Brother Decker’s services are as follows:
Visitation: Thursday, May 21st, 2026, from 1400hrs to 2000hrs at Colonial Funeral Home- 6250 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60646.
Uniformed Personnel Walk-Thru: Thursday, May 21st, 2026, at 1900hrs at Colonial Funeral Home- 6250 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60646. Honor Guard members should arrive no later than 1800hrs.
Funeral Service: Friday, May 22nd, 2026, at 1000hrs at St. Paul Lutheran Church- 5650 N. Canfield Ave., Chicago, IL 60631.Honor Guard Members should arrive no later than 0830hrs to participate in the procession.
Interment: Private.
I know it’s been rough the last couple of months. I know you’ll turn out again, like you always do. Please bring Local flags and tools for the services. I know, as always, you will all do Whatever It Takes to Honor, Cherish, Remember, and Salute Brother Decker, his family, and his Local. |
