It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Brother Juan Gasca of DeKalb Firefighters Local 1236. Brother Gasca passed away unexpectedly on April 6^th, 2026. He was 26 years old and is survived by his parents and his fiancé. Brother Gasca was an active member of the Associated Firefighters of Illinois Honor Guard.

Although this is NOT an activation, Local 1236, and Brother Gasca’s family would like to have Honor Guard members participate in his services. And Brother Gasca was one of our own. His services are as follows:

Visitation: Friday, April 10^th, 2026, from 1600hrs to 1900hrs at Butala Funeral Home- 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.

Uniformed Personnel Walk-Thru: Friday, April 10^th, 2026, at 1900hrs at Butala Funeral Home- 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178. Uniformed personnel should arrive no later than 1800hrs.

Funeral: Saturday, April 11^th, 2026, at 1130hrs, at Saint Catherine of Genoa Catholic Church- 340 S. Stott St., Genoa, IL 60135. Honor Guard members should arrive no later than 1030hrs.

 .

Please do what you can to attend, and honor Brother Gasca, his family, and Local 1236. It’s always hard to attend the services of a fallen firefighter. It doesn’t make it any easier when they were one of our own members. Please look out for each other as we go through another tough time.
